Oakwood Country Bungalow

Oakwood is a lovely country detached bungalow which is situated in a quiet location in the village of Ighfield with no passing traffic.  The bungalow is in a perfect spot for visiting places and walking from the door step.  The village has its own church and bell ringing is on wednesday nights. Our nearest town is Whitchurch which has a Tesco and Sainsburys stores and there is the award winning canalside village of  Audlem which has numerous shops and tearooms including a boat marina.

The Kitchen

Everything you can need for in this kitchen which has an oven( electric)  gas hob, fridge with small freezer (we do have a table top freezer inside the garage, please let us know if you would require this and we can then turn it on before your arrival) and microwave.  There is plenty of storage cupboards and there is a side door which leads into the garden. Wooden floor with radiator.

A spacious lounge with a three piece comfortable suite and dining table which seats 4.  The cosy woodburner will be made up for you with kindle and logs is lovely for those winter nights.  There is a 32″ flat screen tv with free view with a selection of dvd films and games to play on the rainy days.  Wooden floor with rugs and radiator.

There is only enough space for two cars only which must be parked in front of the garage.

The area and location

Oakwood is ideally suited for holiday makers as it is on the Cheshire/Shropshire Border and close to the Staffordshire and Welsh borders.  Ightfield is a quiet village with lots of walks from the doorstep.  The Olde Jack Inn is a 20 minute walk from the bungalow and is dog friendly.  A nature reserve with woodland walks is 10 minutes away and this is also safe and secure for dogs as it is well fenced.  The church dates back to the Doomsday Book and bell ringing practice is every wednesday night which is lovely to hear.  Our nearest town is Whitchurch which has a Sainsburys and Tesco and will deliver to the bungalow. The canalside village of Audlem is the same distance away and this lovely vilage has circular canalside walks, shops and tearooms.

We welcome upto two well behaved dogs in Oakwood (No dogs aged 15 months and under please)  Please do not let your dogs go on the furniture or BEDS or to be left unattended as dogs can cause damage if left in a strange place. Below are some of our guest comments

We visited Oaktree a couple of times a few years ago. Although this was a visit for family reason, rather than a holiday we were confident that Oakwood would be homely and comfortable. It IS lovely and we could happily move in. Thanks once again.

Exactly  how a holiday cottage should be! Faultlessly clean, well equipped and so comfortable. Thanks Bev & Mark for our lovely relaxing week. We have had good days out in Chester and Shrewsbury and Brown Moss is a great area for dog walks. Audlem is a lovely village with nice canalside walks and the Lord Combermere serves good food. Taking home two very grateful and tired rescue doggies.

Flowers and chocolates beautiful and the cake yummy and Buddy loved the treats. Perfect! Day 2 – Walked our socks off.  Day 3 – More adventures and walks along the canal. Day 4 – Shopping, walking and enjoying. Day 5 – Visits to lots of places. Day 6 – More exploring. Day 7 – Leaving and we are enjoying it all too much and we had a great time. The log fire is amazing and our dogs are in heaven. Thank you so much Bev & Mark, we loved every minute of it.

Loved the cake and thanks for the doggy treats. Never been to Shropshire before, but love it.  Lots to do here and we found that even with a mature dad on a scooter and a furry friend in tow, we could take our pick. Enjoyed our meals at the Olde Jack Inn just 1 mile away. We went to Chester and the park there, the Pontcysylite Aqueduct, Hodnet and Dorothy Clive Gardens and the national trusts Attingham Park. The Combermere Arms at Audlem had good food. This is a good quality cottage with a proper enclosed garden. We enjoyed seeing the woodpecker at about 8am each  morning when sitting in bed with a cuppa. Had a lovely time. Thank you.

Our second visit to Bev and Marks amazing properties but this time the bungalow as we are getting older and the stairs are a struggle for us now. As on our first visit, super welcome from bev, the dogs and horses and this property is still up to their very good standard with the peace and quiet. It is just like being at home and we would recommend.

Our first visit to Shropshire and we had a super holiday. the cottage is ideal and one of the best we have stayed in. There is only one problem, we have run out of time to visit all the places  of interest we planned to see on our holiday. We will definataley return for a second visit.  Thank you Bev & mark for all your kindness, the warm welcome, flowers and cake. It was a pleasure to meet you and we hope to see you again soon.
